Law - A & AS Level
LEVEL 3
What will I need?
5 GCSEs at grade A*-C to include English
What will I do?
The main principles of English law and their development. This will enable you to learn, understand and have a critical awareness of the structure, personnel, functions and sources of the English legal system.
Year 1 (AS Level)
- Criminal law (general principles and law of assault)
- Law of tort (compensation for injury)
- Develop necessary skills to analyse and solve problems by applying rules and to communicate legal arguments and conclusions
Year 2 (A2 Level)
- Crime and tort
- Concepts of law
How will I be taught?
Lessons and lectures are underpinned by tutorial support and seminar presentations, assignments, individual study, group discussion, projects and Interactive Learning Technologies (ILT) which will also include:
- Court visits
- Mock trials (at the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham)
- Legal conferences
- Visits to the Houses of Parliament
How will I be assessed?
Ongoing assessment of coursework, projects and formal examinations
Where will it take me?
The subject provides excellent grounding for further studies in Law including degrees in Law and the ILEX qualification and supports entry to other degree courses. An understanding of law supports many careers including the police force, business, accounting, journalism, court clerks and public services.
