What will I need?

5 GCSEs at grade A*-C to include Mathematics, English and Science.

A grade in IT would be an advantage.

Practical work is carried out in a workshop environment; you are required to provide your own protective clothing and safety footwear which is essential for this course.

How long is the course?

One year - Full time

What will I do?

You will be given an insight into the field of Electrical Installation and the role of the installation electrician. Practical skills and tasks relating to domestic, commercial and industrial installations are simulated in the electrical workshop on this full time course.

The units that are undertaken are:

  • Working effectively and safely
  • Principles of Electrotechnology
  • Application of Health and Safety
  • Installation
  • Two practical examinations
  • Key Skills

How will I be taught?

The course consists of 50% theory which will be delivered using our interactive learning package (Moodle) and notes that are provided.

The other 50% of the course involves a series of ‘hands-on’ practical tasks which will introduce you to the basic skills associated with the type of electrical installation work described above and will be delivered in the workshop.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will consist of four online exams and two practical examinations plus Key Skills.

Where will it take me?

Successful completion of all of the City & Guilds modules, together with the associated Key Skills element, could enable you to progress to an Apprenticeship should you wish to pursue a career in the Electrical Installation industry.
