Painting & Decorating

LEVEL 2

What will I need?

You will be working towards or have achieved a Painting and Decorating Foundation Construction Award

OR a Painting and Decorating Level 1 Diploma

OR achieved a Painting and Decorating NVQ Level 1

Motivation and a keen interest in Painting and Decorating

You are required to be employed as a trainee painter or decorator with a company that can meet the NVQ criteria.

Practical work is carried out in a workshop environment; you are required to provide your own protective clothing and safety footwear which is essential for this course.

How long is the course?

One year

What will I do?

General workplace safety

  • Efficient work practices
  • Move and handle resources
  • Erect and dismantle access/working platforms
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating
  • Apply paint systems by brush or roller
  • Plus an optional unit

Throughout the programme you will be required to collect work-based evidence to satisfy the NVQ criteria and work towards achieving Painting and Decorating Level 2 Apprenticeship. You will also study appropriate Key Skills.

How will I be taught?

Training at College will be delivered on a day-release basis and on periods of block release, with practical industrial experience being gained in the workplace. The College day will be structured to give a broad range of knowledge in all aspects of Painting and Decorating through directed tuition and assignments to cover both practical and theoretical project work.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course. You will also need to complete:

  • Course practical phase test
  • Online trade knowledge test
  • Health and Safety test (CSCS)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

You will also build a portfolio of all relevant work-based evidence and a portfolio of underpinning knowledge.

Where will it take me?

On successful completion of the programme, progression can be made on to the Level 3 Apprenticeship programme in Painting and Decorating.
