White Goods - Apprenticeship

LEVEL 2

What do I need?

4 GCSE’s grade C or above including Mathematics, English and Science.

Practical work is carried out in a workshop environment, therefore protective clothing and footwear is essential.

Do I need to have a job?

To study under a full apprenticeship scheme you need to be employed within the White Goods industry.

If you are unable to find suitable employment you may be able to study under the Programme Lead Apprenticeship (PLA) scheme which allows you to study three days per week at college for up to six months and we will assist you in finding a suitable work placement.

How long is the course?

Between 18 and 24 months

What will I do?

NVQ

The White Goods qualification consists of the creation of a portfolio of evidence and will cover a number of units such as:

  • Preventive Maintenance Procedures
  • Diagnosing Faults in Domestic Appliances
  • Replacing Modules in Domestic Appliances

Technical Certificate

A knowledge based qualification covering units as listed above along with exams.

Key Skills

The qualification covers the Application of Numbers, IT and Communication. The units consist of a portfolio and test dependant upon GCSE results.

How will I be taught?

Training at college may be delivered on a day-release basis, with practical industrial experience being gained in the workplace.

The college day will be structured to give a broad foundation of knowledge in all aspects of White Goods through directed tuition and assignments to cover both practical and theoretical project work.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course. You will also build a portfolio of all relevant work- based evidence. You will also need to complete on line testing

Where will it take me?

Students may be able to progress to level 3 or other industrially recognised qualifications.
