Health and Social Care - BTEC First Diploma
LEVEL 2
What will I need?
4 GCSEs at grade A*-D to include English Language
OR BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 1
OR other related Level 1 qualification
How long is the course?
One year – Full Time.
What will I do?
Three compulsory units:
- Communications and individual rights within the Health and Social Care sectors
- Individual needs within the Health and Social Care sectors
Three optional units:
- Cultural diversity within the Health and Social Care sectors
- Human lifespan and development
- Creative and therapeutic activities in Health and Social Care sectors
- The impact of diet on health
Also:
Key Skills at the appropriate level
GCSE re-sits in English and Mathematics, as appropriate
How will I be taught?
Group teaching and individual support. You will also undertake a work experience placement. You will gain experience in a variety of care settings including:
- Children’s nurseries
- Primary schools
- Residential and nursing homes for the elderly
- Day centres or schools for clients with learning and/or physical disabilities
How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment of projects and coursework
Where will it take me?
If you have successfully gained an overall merit award and have achieved a GCSE at grade C in English, you may progress to a BTEC National programme in Health and Social Care or Childcare. Alternatively, you may choose employment, usually in a care-related area, or progress to an NVQ programme in Care.
