5 GCSEs at grade A*-C
OR BTEC First Certificate
OR Diploma in Performing Arts
OR Qualification in a related subject
OR An Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
OR Appropriate work experience
A keen interest in Performing Arts
How long is the course?
Two years
What will I do?
The course is made up of 17 units. There are five compulsory core units that everyone takes. The core unit in Performing (Major Project) counts as two units. The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in depth.
The core units are:
- Performance Workshop
- The Performing Arts Business
- Performing Arts in Context
- Rehearsing
- Performing (Double Unit)
You take 12 specialist units. By selecting the right units you can achieve a qualification in one of the following areas of specialist study:
- Musical Theatre
- Acting
- Dance
- Production
- Technical Theatre
- Design
How will I be taught?
Lessons and lectures are underpinned by tutorial support and seminar presentations, assignments, individual study, group discussion, projects, theatre and performance visits and Interactive Learning Technologies (ILT)
How will I be assessed?
Ongoing assessment of coursework, assignments and projects
Where will it take me?
A BTEC National Diploma prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as:
- BTEC Higher National Diploma in Performing Arts
- Theatre Design
- Technical Theatre
With further study or training, you may go into careers in the Performing Arts industry such as:
- Acting
- Theatre
- Dance
- Entertainment
- Technical or Design Assistant
