Higher National Diploma in Sports Coaching (HND)

Introduction

Sports Coaching is a growing area of the sport industry which will be of particular interest to anyone with an enthusiasm for sport, in a coaching context.

The course teaching is shared between the University of Worcester and Stourbridge College.

Students will attend sessions at both institutions and utilise the facilities at both and within the local areas.

Vocational teaching and learning methods are used throughout, to include presentations, case studies, discussions, reports and essays.

Students will benefit from work experience and, in addition to the course, have the opportunity to complete various coaching qualifications.

Through a selection of practical and business-orientated management modules, this course will develop the skills and knowledge required for a successful career in sports coaching.

 

How long is the course?

Sports Coaching is a two year full-time HND programme that equips students with a nationally recognised qualification.

Year 1 lays the foundation for the industry, building on previous study for further development in year 2.

 

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A-C to include Maths & English plus UCAS tariff: 180 points (or equivalent).

Upon successful application via UCAS all students will be interviewed.

Applications from mature students with no formal qualifications but with relevant experience are welcome.

  • Sport Development and coaching
  • Work based learning (coaching placement)
  • Outdoor Activity Leadership
  • Business of Sport
  • Scientific Foundations of Sport
  • Investigative Techniques


Method of Assessment

The HND is a vocational course, and therefore, assessment methods will reflect this. A variety of methods are used to assess learning including:

  • Coursework
  • Assignments
  • Module tests
  • Individual and group presentations
  • Case studies
  • Reports

You will be set a variety of assessments including presentations, practicals, reports, which is all coursework-based.

 

Progression

Successful completion of the HND will enable students to continue their learning and development within Higher Education at Degree level or to seek employment within the sport and leisure industry.
