A Level Recital Evening

On the evening of Tuesday March 24th 2009, the A2 music students gave their final recital concert to a small, but appreciative, audience. Each of the 4 students on the 'performing pathway' gave a presentation of 20 minutes which showcased their own personal skills and also provided a range of music for their own chosen instrument or voice.

Sophie Tyler began with a mix of show tunes and minimalist music for piano, ranging from 'All I Ask of You' by Andrew Lloyd Webber to 'Limbo' by Ludovico Einaudi.

The second presentation was given by Tracey Byng, playing original music and arrangements for Alto Saxophone. She chose to begin with a Sonate by Telemann and followed this with two movements of a contemporary piece titled 'Sonatine Sportive' by Alexander Tcherepnine, completing her programme with 'Siciliana in Ab major and G# minor'. Although the style of the music was not to everyone's taste, all of the audience appreciated the technical and musical skill that Tracey showed.

The second half of the evening began with Charlotte Ford, giving a presentation of vocal music by a variety of contemporary writers. Her songs included 'Uncomfortably Slow' by Newton Faulkner and 'These Streets' by Paulo Nutini. Apart from her own excellent performance, Charlotte's programme was notable for the variety accompaniment used; piano, acoustic guitar and electric guitar.

The final performer of the evening was Chelsea Fennings who gave a presentation on two instruments. She began with Mozart's famous 'Andante in C' on flute, followed by an arrangement for Alto Saxophone and Piano of Debussy's 'Arabesque No.1', and completing her programme with a rousing and lively performance of Mozart's 'Concerto No.2 in D for flute' (1st mvt.)

All of the students acquitted themselves excellently on the evening and look forward to the award of the grades in the summer!
