Musical Variety Evening

On Thursday April 2nd 2009, the BTEC National Diploma Music Technology second year group put on a Music Variety Evening with the theme of 'Shows from the West End'.

(Click on the images above to see larger versions).

There was a complete range of performances, encompassing all performing arts disciplines, music, drama and dance, and using students from both BTEC and A level qualifications.

Five students from the AS Dance group choreographed a 3 minute piece to the sound track of All That Jazz from Chicago and the AS Drama and Theatre Studies groups presented several scenes from the show, O What a Lovely War. Songs and instrumental arrangements from Grease, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Les Miserables, Chicago, High School Musical and Phantom of the Opera completed the programme. Solo performances were given by Stacey Edmunds (voice), Fiona Clarke (voice), Chelsea Fennings (voice), Nikki Dale (flute), Matthew Tweedale (voice), Tracey Byng (saxophone), Sophie Tyler (piano) and Amanda Rose (voice).

Credit is also due to the technical and organisational team from the BTEC Music Technology group - Stacie Jones (project co-coordinator), Chris Thomas and Noel McElhinney (sound and lighting), John Wild (graphic design) and the front of house team of Matt Roberts, Tom Haddow, Dan Hipkiss, Jon Miles and Dante Efemey.

A full house really enjoyed the evening and joined in with the last two choruses from Grease.

Thanks needs to go to the music staff who assisted the group in putting on this event, either by their technical support, playing or arranging.
