The aim of the Stourbridge College Rugby Academy is to focus on the development of individual players, their physical, technical and mental performance. The Rugby Academy aims to be recognised by prospective students as the place to combine their academic studies with the sport of Rugby.

The academy, which began operating in 2006, is spearheaded by Nathan Price who is eager to provide rugby opportunities for students in the area. He said: “We offer students something else apart from football. It’s a win-win situation whereby students can come to college, study here and be part of the rugby academy. Then hopefully if there are talented players coming through they will be able to go on to Stourbridge RFC to continue their development”.

Sporting Stars of the future could be amongst the recruits of Stourbridge College’s rugby academy. With the help of Stourbridge Rugby Club, the college aims to provide budding players with the chance to sharpen up their skills as well as giving newcomers to the sport a chance to try their hand. In 2009 the academy is hoping to offer players the opportunity to develop their coaching skills be completing rugby coaching qualifications

These include Gareth Bown and Stefan Shillingford, who have both completed the BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development & Fitness and clinched places in the team after impressing British College Sports coaches at trials in 2008.
