Travel students take off... to Manchester Airport
BTEC National Travel students recently enjoyed the chance to look behind the scenes at a busy UK airport on a visit to Manchester. The students were treated to an interactive talk from the education tour guides on board an ex Monarch DC10 including a sneaky look at the pilots seat in the cockpit and a chance to touch the famous British Airways Concord standing proudly on display in a glass hangar near the viewing area.
Getting close up to aircraft landing and taking off, a chance to speak to staff who work at the airport on a daily basis and generally watching in awe at the sheer volume of passengers travelling through the airports arrivals and departure areas, gave the students a real taste of life at the airport.
BTEC Nat. Cert student, Rosie Clifton stated “it spurred me on, I hadn’t even considered working at the airport but got so much out of it I really want to get on in the travel industry and would consider working at the airport”
BTEC National Cert student, Aimee White stated “I was so excited, there is just something about being at the airport and I want to work there even more so now”
The students were a credit to the college throughout the visit, asking questions, making good use of the tour and have now bought the experience back to the classroom in a series of airport based role play assessments for the NCFE Airport Passenger Service Agents award.
Students at Manchester Airport
Dani was able to pass on her experience of the recruitment and training process as well as her industry knowledge. The advice and knowledge was invaluable to the students as they are studying recruitment processes as part of their ‘working in industry’ unit for the qualification and all looking for jobs in the industry from June onwards
Dani answered a variety of questions from the students offering a look at the positives and perks of the job role as well as some of the harsh realities of life in the industry.
The students appreciated the visit which is part of a series of guest speakers joining the travel team this month including a resort rep and training manager.
