College Students Get Off To A Flying Start!

Stourbridge College Travel & Tourism students got off to a flying start when they got a fantastic opportunity to train with Thomson Airways at East Midlands Airport recently.

As part of the cabin crew training programmes run by Thomson, students had the opportunity to experience cabin service first hand, getting the chance to use specialist emergency equipment such as life rafts and entering a smoke filled cabin in fire training.

Rachael Aston, Lecturer in Travel & Tourism at Stourbridge College, said: “Our visit to Thomson Airways gave the students a fantastic opportunity to train with the professionals so that they can see, first hand, what a career in the industry is really like. It’s our aim at Stourbridge College to prepare students for the world of work and this kind of practical, real hands on experience is a vital part of the qualification we offer.”

The training day formed part of a specific cabin crew qualification which second year students take alongside their main programme of study in Travel & Tourism. Anyone interested in courses at Stourbridge College should check out: www.stourbridge.ac.uk/ep.
