Co-op Travel visit
On Thursday 10th May, the travel and tourism students went along to Co-op travel in Kidderminster to learn about how to book holidays and to experience a working environment.

The students were shown how to access customer databases, book holidays through Global Distribution Systems and how to check for holiday deals.
The students also had the opportunity to experience the ‘windows to the world’ area where customers can relax in the comfort of leather sofas and watch videos about different destinations – giving them a feel for the holidays they can book.
A member of staff (Becki) from the shop escorted the students around the shop to explain about health and safety and security.
The students gained a valuable insight into the life of a travel agent and what the job involves and will hopefully bring some of that enthusiasm back to the classroom to complete their NCFE Certificate in travel qualification.
We are looking forward to working with Co-op travel again in the future.
Travel students visit to the Village Hotel
On Thursday 26th April, the level 2 travel group visited the Village Hotel in Dudley for an insight into their facilities and customer service. The students were given a full tour of the hotel, giving them an opportunity to see the range of bedrooms, banqueting suites, leisure facilities and bar and restaurant.

The students then had the opportunity to speak to Emma, a former Stourbridge College leisure student, about life at the hotel and what it is really like to work in this industry.
The students prepared and asked questions relating the quality of provision of facilities and customer service carried out by the hotel. They now have to prepare their own leaflet advertising the Village Hotel for assessment of the visit.
Cadbury World Visit
On Friday 20th April, the tourism students joined forces with the business students and took part in a trip to Cadbury World. The students arrived at about 12 O’clock and enjoyed a couple of hours at the chocolate factory learning about the production and history of Cadbury’s chocolate.
The students took part in interactive learning experiences including a ride through the chocolate wonderland of the cocoa bean. It was an opportunity for the students to see one of the most popular visitor attractions in the country and experience its dedicated and professional customer service.
Residential Visit – Costa Del Sol
Year 2 BTEC travel and tourism students, Danielle Clews, Natalie Durant, Carissa Lawley and Rachel Griffiths report on their residential visit to Spain in November 2006.

“For our residential unit in BTEC travel and tourism we had to plan and visit a chosen destination. We visited Benelmadena in Costa Del Sol. We chose this destination for a number of reasons: There were plenty of attractions to visit; it was a short flying time of 2 and half hours; it was within our budget of £150 and the weather was warm for the time of year.
During the trip we visited the sea life centre, Gibraltar and Torremolinos. The trip was really educational although we also had lots of fun. It helped us to understand how to plan an overseas visit as well as bringing the students and tutors closer together.”
