Lee, who is 17 and a fulltime Painting and Decorating student at Stourbridge College, scooped first place for Painting and Decorating at the West Midlands regional finals of SKILLBUILD and is now poised to go onto the national finals in October.

SKILLBUILD is a National Competition for young people training within the construction industry and aims to identify the best young trainee in the UK within each trade discipline.

Lee received a medal and certificate to commemorate his achievement and he said: “It was a long hard day but I really enjoyed the challenge, there were a lot of very skilful contestants from colleges all over the Midlands so I was delighted to win.”

Painting and Decorating lecturer Chris Jones said: “This is a well deserved win for Lee, he is an outstanding student who works hard and is keen to achieve his goals.”

Lee added: “I’m looking forward to the SKILLBUILD finals in October but my first priority is to find a Painting and Decorating apprenticeship so that I can continue to learn my trade.”
