Travel students visit the Co-op

A trip to the travel agents was no holiday for a group of Stourbridge College travel and tourism students recently.

The group went along to Co-op Travel in Kidderminster to experience a real working environment and how travel agents process holiday bookings.

Students were shown how to access customer details, book holidays through Global Distribution Systems and how to check for holiday deals.

They also had the opportunity to experience the ‘windows to the world’ area where customers can relax in the comfort of leather sofas and watch videos about different destinations – giving them a feel for the holidays they can book.

Stourbridge College lecturer Jo Benham said: “The visit gave students the chance to see how a retail travel agency functions on a day to day basis.

“Being a part-time member of staff at the college and at Co-op Travel meant I could access systems that students would never normally be able to use in a college environment.

“This type of experience is invaluable for those who may be looking for a career as a travel agent in the future.

“We would like to thank Kidderminster Co-op for their help and support and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future.”
