Art students prove their worth
Stourbridge Art College once again proves that it is a cut above the rest with an outstanding set of results in BTEC Level 3 Diploma In Foundation Studies (Art & Design).
Left to right: Rowan Smith, Jade Bridgewood, James Harris, Shunwai Yung and Lee Valentine (seated).
The course is the entrance to university in Art and Design; indeed of the 82 students who have completed the course, 78 will go on to university whilst the other four have chosen to take a gap year before continuing their studies.
With a 100% pass rate the students have thrown up some amazing statistics.
Distinction is the highest grade achievable and Stourbridge College had 31% of its students with this grade; the national average being 20%.
A further 39% achieved Merit awards; again, the national average is 34%
The students’ work is subject to scrutiny by an External Examiner and Keith Malkin of Edexel commented in his report: “This is a strong course that continues to allow and encourage students to realise their potential within a supportive and creatively challenging environment.
“There is a strong emphasises on final outcome and exhibiting of work that makes for a professional show with high standards of presentation.”
Examples of the students work have recently been on show at the Live and Let Live Gallery in the Crown Centre Stourbridge and members of the public have been treated to some stunning visual displays.
Course Leader Patrick Caines said: “I am immensely proud of achievements of all of our students and with 70% achieving either merit or distinction, an outstanding result.”
Foundation Examiner Keith Malkin also commented: “…there is clear leadership and management of the course to the benefit of both its students and their college experience.”
