‘Every Little Helps’ for Successful Job Hunters
A recent skills workshop provided two local ladies with that little bit of extra help to secure jobs at the new Tesco store which opens in Cradley Heath at the end of this month.
Left to Right: Helen Fox, Jason Fisher (Stourbridge College), Debbie Gardener.
As part of the Skills into Jobs project, Debbi Gardener and Helen Fox attended a pre-recruitment workshop which was run by Stourbridge College in collaboration with Job Centre Plus.
Jason Fisher project, coordinator for Stourbridge College said: “We worked with Jobcentre Plus to organise the workshops, which aim to boost employability. Tips and techniques for success in job interviews were a key aspect of the training. Of the fifteen people who attended the workshop, six people have been offered work at Tesco.”
Following a successful interview Debbie and Helen have been offered positions as customer service advisors at the new Tesco store.
Debbie, from Brierley Hill, is returning to work after caring for her family. She confessed that she was finding job interviews a bit daunting but with the help of her newly acquired interview skills she sailed through the Tesco interview.
Debbie said: “The workshop was informative and comprehensive; Jason has a relaxed and positive way and I did not feel pressurised, a real confidence builder.”
Helen, from Halesowen, added that she had recently been made redundant and was dreading the search for a new job, but with the help of the workshop she has had a successful interview with Tesco and is just about to begin induction training.
Skills into Jobs is a new Government initiative which is being piloted in the Black country. It is helping people across the region to find work by offering free training and support to enhance their employability.
Jason Fisher concluded “The Skills into Jobs project is making a big difference to helping the unemployed to get over the all important job interview hurdle. There are a number of other training options available and anyone who is unemployed and would like to take advantage of this free training can contact me on 01384 344 411. Similarly we are keen to work with employers on their recruitment projects or those who have employment opportunities available.”
