Smart Mums
A group of mums from Wordsley can really claim the title of Smart Mums
The group, whose children attend Ashwood Park Primary School off Bells Lane, returned to the classroom themselves to take on a project called “Keeping Up With The Children”, delivered by Stourbridge College at the school.
Left to Right – Back row: Margaret Jones, Karen Peters, Anna Jeavons, Anna Lockhart, Dawn Saunders, Lynne Garbet, Emma Lamsdale (Stourbridge College) Front row: Julie Staley, Sally Bonneywell, Julie Hadland, Helen Smith
The project is aimed at parents or carers of primary school children and seeks to raise awareness of literacy and numeracy classes which introduce new methods in teaching maths and English.
Inspired by their success they have continued their personal development and have now taken the City and Guilds Adult Numeracy exam achieving a fantastic 100% pass rate at levels one and two.
Many have now progressed to study for the City and Guilds Adult Literacy or have progressed onto Teaching Assistants courses undertaking their placements through the school.
Stourbridge College lecturer Emma Lamsdale said: “I am thrilled with the success this group has achieved. The qualifications have really been life changing for many of them, giving them new employment opportunities or working on voluntary projects and we are immensely proud of the success of our adult learners programme.
Stourbridge College works closely with a number of schools in the area to bring learning opportunities to adults, for more information on these programmes please contact Emma Lamsdale on 01384 344396
