Local Student Boxes Clever
Stourbridge College student Ryan Aston is boxing clever and his recent winning form has won him a bout in the ring representing Team GB against Germany at the National Indoor Arena.

A Middleweight fighter, Ryan, 17, who lives in Wrens Nest in Dudley, is in his second year at Stourbridge College studying a BTEC National Certificate in Sport and has been boxing for ten years. He started competing when he was 11 and his recent winning form has placed him in the Team GB Talent Squad.
Ryan said: “I have been boxing since I was seven and since starting to compete have won quite a few bouts. I’ve been training with Team GB for three months and hope that I can compete in trials to take part in the Olympic Qualifiers. My ambition is to go for gold.”
Andrew Glover, Sports Technician at Stourbridge College, said: “We are very proud of Ryan’s achievements to date. He is a dedicated and committed sportsman and it’s fantastic that he will be boxing in the national arena showing that sports studies at Stourbridge College really can pay off!”
Ryan boxes at Priory Park Boxing Club in Dudley. He takes Germany on at 7.00 pm on Friday 19th December 2008 at the NIA.
