Marathon Man John Stokes

During the day Stourbridge College lecturer, John Stokes, drives forward energy electrical training courses and in his spare time he puts all of his energy into running and he’s putting his best foot forward by training to run the London Marathon later this month.

John, 56, a lecturer for three years at the college’s Energy Training Centre based in Ham Lane, Kingswinford, is currently training five days a week in order to raise £500 for the Severn Hospice in Shropshire where he lives.

He said: “I had always been a couch potato but after joining my local club I have been running for five years. I have run a half marathon including the Great North Run twice, the Birmingham & Black Country half marathon and recently ran the Stourbridge Stumble. I have raised over £300 to date and am really excited about running the London Marathon. I hope to be able to complete it in under five hours.”

John lectures on electrical courses including White Goods and Part P and at the moment is running 34 miles a week while he trains for the marathon.
