College Life is Plain Sailing
Three Stourbridge College Built Environment students are sailing off to compete in the British College’s Sport Watersports Championships in Cornwall – proof that college life can be plain sailing!
Matt Squire, Drew Nickless and Thomas Hibberd
Studying at the Advanced Technology Centre in Brierley Hill, Matt Squire, 17, from Stourbridge, Drew Nickless, 18, from Wombourne and Thomas Hibberd, 19 from Oldbury are going to show off their sporting skills in the National Watersports competition which covers sailing, windsurfing and kayak racing.
Drew said: “We are competing against other colleges from up and down the country so it should be a really exciting event. I’ve been sailing since I was seven and it’s great that my hobby can be put to good use on behalf of the college. We hope to do really well.”
Kathleen Jackson, Personal Tutor, added: “It’s important that students know that college life isn’t just about studying. There are lots of other things to get involved with including sports activities and social events. The lads are sailing through their course and we hope that other school leavers will be inspired by their achievements.”
Built Environment courses include the National Certificate/Diploma in Construction which allow progression onto higher level programmes for careers in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Town Planning, Quantity Surveying, Building Services Engineering and Building Control.
