Music Lecturer Shows Great Composure
Stourbridge College music lecturer, Andy Glover, has shown great composure over the years by winning competitions all over the world for his music compositions.
Andy Glover plays a New World instrument.
With a background in writing, composing and performing music and a PHD in the subject, Andy has had one of his winning compositions performed by the English Northern Philharmonic Orchestra and broadcast on the BBC. The piece, Fractured Vistas, was shortlisted for a competition in Poland and his next composition, Bloodied Moon, came first in an Anthem for Chamber Piece competition in Mexico and was played by the Mexican Symphony Orchestra. His latest composition, Reasons of Darkness, Excuses of Light, has won him the Presidential Promotional Prize (POTSDAM) in Berlin – an international competition which will see his work performed in Germany and he has composed an Austrian piece for solo piano which is being performed in July in Salzburg.
Andy said: “I have a passion for music and art combined and am pleased that my compositions are being recognised across the globe in such diverse countries. My day job of teaching students music doesn’t stop when the college is closed – I write, play and compose music in my spare time and live and breathe the subject.”
Andy Sylvester, Senior Director for Creative Industries & A Levels at Stourbridge College, said: “Andy is an experienced lecturer with a great passion for his art and I’m sure that the music students at the college benefit enormously from his dedication and creativity.”
