Stourbridge College students on a Painting & Decorating Diploma Level 1 course went scouting for some practical experience when they offered to decorate a Scout Hut in Kingswinford.

Kim Fellows, one of the Painting & Decorating team at Stourbridge College’s Advanced Technology Centre in Brierley Hill, said: “We wanted to find a community project that would give the students some real practical experience and this was ideal. Leyland Paints offered us the materials free of charge and each of our three Painting & Decorating groups took turns to do the internal decoration. They all enjoyed it immensely.”

Paul Cartwright, Acting Group Scout Leader at the 2nd Kingswinford Scout Group, said: “Our hut at The Knoll, off Standhills Road, was in great need of internal decoration and this was a great solution for us as well as giving the Stourbridge College students some valuable practical work experience. It’s marvellous that our local college can get involved in community projects like this and I’m sure our scouts will benefit from the improvements.”
