Diploma Builds Partnership Working
Stourbridge is one of the first colleges in the Dudley Borough to offer the Construction & Built Environment Diploma – starting out on the road to a new way of learning. The college delivers the specialist qualification in a unique consortium with King Edward VI College and Pedmore, Redhill, Ridgwood and Thorns Schools.

The Diploma provides entry into the professional side of Construction & the Built Environment rather than traditional trades, offering practical learning, training and skills built up over a continuous period of time from age 14-16 through to 19.
The course covers employability skills and prepares students for hundreds of diverse careers such as Building and Planning Control, Conveyancing, Surveying, Designing and many jobs relating to the Built Environment.
Lynette Cutting, Principal at Stourbridge College, said: “The Diploma is a great new way of learning. Pupils can choose this course as part of their options at school and then can continue with us when they leave. There are over 700 careers in Construction & the Built Environment and when the economy picks up, there will be a real need for a qualified professional workforce.”
Sharon Phillips, Principal of King Edward VI College, said that she was delighted that the college was able to participate in the consortium, adding that “whilst this college is of course a specialist A Level provider, I am keen to support Stourbridge College and the local schools as they broaden the 14-19 curriculum.”
