Joe Puts His Foot On The Gas

Stourbridge College student Joe Woodhall, 19, didn’t let redundancy put paid to his career. After taking a Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing at the college’s Advanced Technology Centre in Brierley Hill, he put his foot on the gas and signed up for a gas installation and maintenance course at the Energy Training Centre in Kingswinford – setting up his own business in the process.

Joe, from Sedgley, said: “I have always been more hands on and preferred more practical work rather than traditional studying so the NVQ courses at Stourbridge College were ideal for me. I was made redundant just before Christmas last year and was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to complete my NVQ so I set up my own business – JW Plumbing & Heating. I’m now fully qualified and the business is doing well.”

Valerie Graham, Energy Training Centre Manager, said: “The college’s Energy Training Centre runs a variety of gas, plumbing and electrical courses to suit all ages at very competitive prices. Joe’s determination to succeed after redundancy shows what can be accomplished even in these difficult times of recession. Joe is looking to add to his qualifications by doing other short courses such at LPG with us in the future.”
