Colleges Week is a celebration of the role colleges play across the country in unlocking talent in communities and transforming the lives of learners. Body Combat is the empowering cardio workout inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as Karate, boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

Chris Harding, Lecturer in Sport & Public Services, said: “The Body Combat classes were arranged as part of Colleges Week to focus students on activities which involve improving their fitness and energy levels. We are very focused at Stourbridge College on improving all aspects of student life – it’s not just about learning, there are also lots of other activities to get involved with – and we thought that this martial arts based class was an ideal way of exploring other ways of getting fit as well as the more traditional sports activities that are available to everyone.”

Matthew Stokes, student on the BTEC National Certificate Y1, said: “Body Combat was really enjoyable because of the diversity of movements and it helped improve our core strength.”

Rhiannon Stokes, BTEC First Diploma student, said: “I really enjoyed it and it gave me other ideas on how to improve mine and others’ fitness levels.”
