Cycling For Gold In Aid Of Transplant Donation
Stourbridge College Sports Science lecturer, Steve Nyland, has proved he’s fit to compete at the highest level by getting on his bike to compete in the British Transplant Games in the summer.
Steve, 34 from Worcester, received a Bone Marrow transplant 12 years ago after developing Leukaemia at the age of 22 and since then has been working hard to achieve goals he’d never thought would be possible including competing at the British Transplant Games and winning a Gold Medal in the 10k cycle time trial at both national and world level. As well as getting on his bike to raise money he’s done a sponsored parachute jump, ran the London Marathon and the Great North Run and has raised money to build a school in Africa.
Steve said: “I am passionate about continuing to support and raise awareness of the Transplant Games and transplant donation in general to give hope and inspiration to others who have been diagnosed with a life threatening disease like Leukaemia that luckily only took two years out of my life. Now, with my wife Natalie and my three year old, George, things are all back on track and I aim to keep cycling to raise that all important awareness.”
Steve is being sponsored by The Green Bike Company based in Worcester and Halesowen (thegreenbikecompany.co.uk). The British Transplant Games is being held in Bath from 19th until 22nd August 2010).
