Motor Skills For Girl Guides

Members of Girlguiding UK from the Hagley Division visited Stourbridge College’s Motor Vehicle department for an evening session in basic car maintenance which included learning how to change a tyre! Lennox Ricketts and Philip Adams, motor vehicle lecturers, agreed to give the guides a quick training session as part of their work towards gaining an Independent Living badge.

Debbie Carter, Senior Section Advisor for the Hagley Division, said: “I wanted the girls to take part in traditionally ‘male’ tasks so that their learning could be extended; also as they are all approaching the age of being able to learn to drive it’s something that will be relevant to them all in the near future. Phil and Lennox were very thorough in their teaching and the girls were very lucky to have such expert tuition. I'm sure they will remember Phil and Lennox when they change a wheel in the future!”

Andrew, from Stourbridge Warriors Explorer Scout Unit, said: “I went along with the girls because I wanted to get ahead of my class mates and learn some basic car maintenance before I start taking my driving lessons.”
