Local Firm Sparks Interest
in Apprenticeships
Local Cradley Heath company, Chapman’s Electrical, has sparked interest in apprenticeships by taking on three Stourbridge College electrical students so that they can earn while they learn.
Chapmans Apprentices
Jon Copson, 16, Michael Robinson, 16, and Andrew Greenwood, 17 have been studying Electrical Installation Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) at Stourbridge College’s Advanced Technology Centre and were put forward to be interviewed by Chapman’s Electrical after the company, which has been established for 85 years, expressed an interest in growing and nurturing their own talent through apprenticeships.
Mark Lynock from Chapman’s Electrical said: “Chapman’s have a long history of offering apprentices training opportunities and is committed to having a well trained workforce, whether it is in our Aerial, Electrical, Sales or Service departments. As we move into the emerging sustainable energy markets, such as Photo Voltaic electric generation, we need a highly qualified workforce and what better way to achieve this than by taking on apprentices who have shown that they are committed to their chosen trade by securing on the job qualifications. Our three new apprentices will attend college one day a week and spend the rest of the time working with us obtaining their practical skills.”
Brett O’Reilly, Assessor at Stourbridge College, said: “This is fantastic news for Stourbridge College. It’s our aim not only to provide qualifications for students of all ages but to prepare them for employability and work – progression is a priority for us and it’s great that a local company like Chapman’s recognises the value of apprenticeships to their business.”
