College Celebrates Student Success At ‘Oscar’ Awards Ceremony
Stourbridge College has celebrated its students’ achievements and success over the past year at a glittering Oscar Awards Ceremony at the Copthorne Hotel in Brierley Hill.
Eighteen students from across all college faculties were nominated for the awards which were held in the Caslon Suite in the presence of special guest speaker, Margot James, MP for Stourbridge, parents/carers and guardians, Governors as well as the Leader and Deputy Leader of Dudley Council, Les Jones and Tim Wright.

Students were each presented with a £100 Westfield Gift Voucher, an OSCAR statue, a certificate and four of the construction trades categories were sponsored by Dewalt who offered the lucky winners a battery operated drill worth £100. Overall Student of the Year was presented with a £200 Westfield Gift Voucher.

Lynette Cutting, Principal at Stourbridge College, said: “We are delighted to celebrate our students’ achievements for the past year. The ceremony acknowledges the hard work of our students, staff and the support that parents give all of which is crucial to achieving success. As well as celebrating academic achievements, we’ve also looked at how our students have contributed to college and community life and what their journey has been like in terms of how far they’ve come.”

Student of the Year 2010/11 – Pardeep Boora
Charlotte Bennett, Business Lecturer, said: “Pardeep was enrolled on a Level 2 and got moved on to a Level 3 course within weeks and is now on track to achieve a Distinction. Since being on the National Diploma in Business, he has embraced all opportunities to learn, develop skills and he has been involved in fundraising activities for the college as well as organising events. He is the department’s Health and Safety volunteer and is well known and liked around the college.”
