Stourbridge College hosted Carillion’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ competition for the second year running recently – laying the foundations for building construction skills for the future.

The event saw nearly 30 Carillion apprentices in bricklaying, carpentry & joinery and painting & decorating from their 18 training centres up and down the country competing against each other for the day. The groups were judged on their skill and competency in their chosen trade. Teams attended from as far away as Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Bristol.
Four Stourbridge College students took part in the event with Aiden Bradley and Liam Jones, Painting & Decorating, coming second and third in the Painting & Decorating competition.
Kevin Stevens, Assistant Principal for Construction, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome students from around the country. Our excellent facilities at the Advanced Technology Centre are ideal for this competition and we were pleased to host the event again. Winners from the competition will be entered into the SkillBuild National Final which will be held later in the year.”
