College Course Just The Job
Stourbridge College is making sure students get prepared for the world of work by offering them employability skills – and the success has been recognised by a national awarding body which proves that the course is just the job!
The NCFE Level 1 Award in Employability is offered through Stourbridge College’s two Job Shops which help students with job search assistance, work experience, volunteering and apprenticeship support. The versatile qualification equips young people in preparing for work and is completed alongside their normal studies.
Tina Dalzell, Stourbridge College’s Job Shop Manager, said: “The NCFE Employability qualification is nationally recognised and has been extremely successful. Nearly 1,000 students have completed the course and have found it very rewarding but, more importantly, there has been a significant increase in students applying for and getting jobs since the course was introduced.”
Emma King, Business Development Officer at NCFE, said: “Stourbridge College’s delivery of the Level 1 Award Employability course has been really successful and we wanted to recognise their achievement. They plan on continuing to provide the course again this year and, in addition, will be offering the Level 2 Award in Employability to at least 250 second year students.”
Sheila Bailey, who has just completed a pre employment ‘Care to Make a Difference’ course, said: “I have learnt about effective communication, external and internal customers and the importance of customer service. Our tutor is fantastic, she explains everything well and her attitude is fantastic.”
