Daniel Sports Discus Power

Stourbridge College student, Daniel Power, is eyeing up an international competition in Discus throwing – and he’s hoping to get as far as Barcelona in the New Year.

Daniel, 17, from Stourbridge, is studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport at Stourbridge College, and is an under 20’s national discus thrower. He trains seven times a week with training including technical sessions, weight training and overall conditioning.

He said: “This is a really important year for me as I could potentially win a medal at the Nationals which means I can make my debut for Great Britain in an international competition, the World Junior Athletic Championship, which will be held in Barcelona.”

Daniel is in the first year of his age category and in last year’s national competition, qualified for the final. He is on the first year of his course and hopes to pursue a career in sport when he completes his course.
