Construction Apprentices On Winning Form

Apprentices from colleges in the Black Country who work for Dudley Council were recognised in an awards ceremony hosted by Stourbridge College recently. The students, studying Carpentry & Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical, Plastering and Brickwork apprenticeships, attended the event along with guests including college partners, work placement mentors and Dudley Council Housing Services Managers, which recognises and rewards apprenticeship achievements throughout the year.

All apprentices employed by Dudley Council Building Services who had completed qualifications were recognised and given a certificate marking their achievement. The winning students also received a certificate, a £40 tool voucher each and an engraved glass trophy. The awards, all won by Stourbridge College students, were presented by Andrea Pope- Smith, Director of Adult, Community & Housing Services. Kieron Fellows, Carpentry & Joinery student, won second year Apprentice of the Year, Simon Derby, also Carpentry & Joinery won third year Apprentice of the Year, joint winners Karl Rose and Michael Bains, Plumbers, won fourth year Apprentice of the Year and Paul Roberts, Carpentry & Joinery won Overall Apprentice of the Year.

Kevin Stevens, Assistant Principal (Construction & the Built Environment), said: “We were delighted that Stourbridge College students swept the board at this annual awards ceremony, recognising how valuable it is to ensure that young people get practical hands on training and the chance to progress in a real working environment.”
