Disability Support
The College actively encourages participation from learners with disabilities and, wherever practical, will continue to remove barriers that may make access difficult. A copy of the College's Disability Statement is available from all reception areas and the Learning Resources Centre. The College is committed to the principle of inclusive learning and strives to meet the needs of all learners throughout the curriculum. If you are a student who has a disability or a medical condition we would like to offer you on-programme support to meet your individual requirements.
We can help provide materials in a suitable format, assess your individual needs, and request extra time in examinations. Present students include individuals with visual and hearing impairments, dyslexia, mobility problems, autism, recovering from mental ill health and other learning difficulties, many of whom are integrated into mainstream provision. In addition, discrete classes are provided, as appropriate, for those students with moderate or severe learning difficulties.
A Charter for Learning published by the National Organisation for Adult Learning states that students with learning difficulties want the right, amongst other things:
- To speak up
- To have support
- To have the chance to make friends
- To good access
- Not to be bullied
- To have good teaching
- To learn in a nice place
- To be treated as adults with respect
Disability is not a barrier to success, but other people can be. Help us bring down these barriers.
If you would like more information on the
support we can offer you, or you would like to arrange a confidential
consultation please contact Student Services.
