Drama group scoops awards trio at show

A Stourbridge College drama group won a string of awards at the Worcester Theatre Festival.

The Sidy by Side group made up of students with learning difficulties, picked up a trio of trophies at the festival held in Evesham.

Judges awarded the group the Nell Tyrell Trophy for best set and the Peter Mellors Trophy for best piece of original theatre for their production of The Doors, which is based on Mozart's opera The Magic Flute.

Side by Side member Cheryl Price, aged 28, was also given the Worcestershire Theatre Festival Music Trophy for her performance of ‘When You Walk Through a Storm’ from Carousel.

Director Susan Wallin said: "They have all done tremendously well and I am very, very proud of their achievement."

A fundraising campaign has also been launched to get the group to the Edinurgh Festival next year.
