Students' Iran invite
A group of Stourbridge drama students with learning disabilities has been invited to perform at an international festival for the disabled in Iran.
After learning about Stourbridge College's award-winning Side by Side drama group on the internet, organisers of the International Festival of the Disabled's Theatre contacted group leader Sue Wallin to invite the students to tread the boards at the second annual event in Tehran in July.
The festival's committee president said that the event - which showcases the talents of groups with various disabilities - would be enriched by the group’s attendance.
Organisers have even offered to pay for hotel accommodation and expenses, but the students would have to cover their own air fare.
Sue Wallin said: "It's quite exciting to be asked to go to the Middle East, but the airfare to Iran would be astronomical and we've already got a lot going on this year."
We're saving up to go to the Edinburgh Festival again in 2006 and we've got to raise £600 to perform at Stourbridge Town Hall this Summer, but I'm waiting to find out more."
"If somebody came up and said 'here's the money', we'd have to seriously think about it."
