Festival awards for Side By Side
All England Theatre Festival
Side By Side Theatre Group, who study drama at Stourbridge College, took part in the Worcestershire Division of the All England Theatre Festival on Saturday 11th of March and were awarded the Peter Mellor's Award for their performance of We Are The Dreamers (a new play, written by their Director Susan Wallin, based on A Midsummer Night's Dream) They also took the trophy for Best Set and among the nominations were:
BEST ACTOR: Paul Taylor as Max
THE COMEDY AWARD: Francis Muller for Elliot
BEST DIRECTOR: Susan Wallin for We Are The Dreamers.
The Dudley Festival of Music Dance & Drama
Over the weekend of March the 18th & 19th, the Performing Arts students, on the Learning For Life course at the College, scooped another set of awards at The Dudley Festival of Music Dance & Drama.
Two groups of drama students entered the new Special Poetry Speaking Class and came first.
Dance/Drama students won their class with an outstanding 89 marks.
The Side By Side students won the Chairman's Trophy with an amazing 90 marks and the Dance students won their class with 84 marks.
They all have certificates and trophies.
Adjudicator, Beryl Buteux, said of the Dance/Drama piece, based on Gustav Holst's Planet Suite:
"A stunning piece of dance/drama, using technical and artistic skills developed to a high standard."
Among her many praises of the drama piece We Are The Dreamers she said,
"A variety of skills developed to create an enchantment of the senses, dreams will never be the same again."
